WoD The Heck: Changeling the Dreaming

changelingShaun, Faust, and I discuss the winner of the White Wolf “One thing is not like the others” contest, Changeling the Dreaming. Learn about fancy points, how rational flat earthers are, and how many types of dreaming there are. Faust gained several points of banality from this episode, so enjoy!

  1. Ross hit on one of the fundamental problems with oWoD with his antivaxer thing. White Wolf had a way of insisting that the MAN just, like, wanted to take your individuality away, MAN, but they were writing in an era that was the blossoming of what would become an unprecedented age of being able to be more “yourself” than anyone ever could before, thanks to the internet. it’s really hard to say that modern society is a crushing, homogenizing force when it’s the loudest megaspeaker ever handed to the voiceless ever. oWoD had a very YOU’RE NOT MY REAL DAD, DAD attitude toward being a rebel. there was one way to do it, and if you weren’t doing it that way, you were part of the -system,- which was always and forever bad no matter what.

  2. There’s no objectivity in how the oWoD categorized Bad Things That Harm The Soul of The Universe from Good Things That Are Dying and Must Be Protected.

If it was something the game designer disliked, it was bad and if it was something the designer liked, it was good.

All oWoD games are like this to some degree.

  3. I truly enjoy this series because in my mind I am Faust. Coming from a similar place of ignorance to the OWoD, my inner dialogue mirrors his incredulity at the convoluted setting of this system.

  4. So just gotta tell this story, as I probably wouldn’t have had this thought were it not for these episodes.

I was driving in the city today and stopped at the lights. Saw I was next to the local industrial park (big old sign saying so) and was like “Heh, enemy territory for Changelings.” Then I noticed this person. A spry older woman walking with a marching skip out of the industrial park. She had Elton John sunglasses, a pale yellow raincoat (it was sunny out), what looked like tie-die pajama pants with her hair in an old school bun, big grin ear to ear and a clip board stuff with pages. All I could think of was “If that’s not a creature of Fey, battling the forces of Banality, I don’t know what is.”

Thanks RPPR and WoD the Heck.
